The most common by far is impression die forging making up the majority of forging production. Impression die forging uses a top and bottom die that come together to forge the metal in between. As the mold comes together it leaves flash or a parting line that at times needs to be removed from the finished part. Most common types of metal forged are types of mild and stainless steel.
