Find a Belt, Quick-Lok, Resin Fibre Disc and PSA Disc that will perform as well, if not better than the current products being used.

Summary

Arc Abrasives, Inc. did testing in several different applications to find products that would better suit the needs for McNeilus.

Testing showed that in all but one of these applications ARC has a product that is superior to that currently being used.  The application that was not superior is being looked into further.

Results

The Quick-Lok test was performed on an automated machine for 20 minutes.
• The test was performed at 6,800 rpm and the quick-lok was set at a 30 degree angle, on the edge of mild steel.
• The metal was weighed every minute to get the discs cut.

The belt test was performed off-hand on a Dynafile tool for 10 minutes.
• The test was performed on the edge of mild steel, weighing the metal every minute to measure cut.
• The Belt was grinded on the contact wheel of the Dynafile tool.

The PSA was tested off-hand using an orbital sander for 10 minutes.
• The test was performed on the flat of mild steel, weighing the metal every minute and taking an scratch depth reading every 2 minutes

The 4 ½” Resin Fiber Disc and 4 ½” Flap Disc testing was performed off-hand for 10 minutes

Conclusions

A better cut can be achieved by switching to a 2” 50 grit Predator Quick-Lok.

By switching to AP23M a better cut and a similar finish can be achieved

The PREDATOR Belt did not quite perform up to the Norton Blaze-Lite. Further testing will be done to find a solution to this.
