Objective
Provide a product with better performance than Standard Abrasives’ AP disc.
Summary
ARC can offer two products with better performance than Standard Abrasives’ AP disc:
High Strength Medium disc and High Strength Fine Disc, both of which wore less than the AP disc.
The Medium disc is thicker but did not wear as much as the fine disc which is thinner
Cut’ on the inconel test bar was minimal for all three discs and was not measurable
We recommend Moeller try both discs to make their final choice.
Products Used
Brite Buff High Strength Deburring Disc 8 X 1/2 A Medium
Brite Buff High Strength Deburring Disc 8 X 1/2 A Fine
Standard Abrasives AP Disc 8 X 1/2 AO Medium |
8” diameter, ½” arbor hole, ½” thick
8” diameter, ½” arbor hole, 5/16” thick
8” diameter, ½” arbor hole, ¼” thick |
Results
Discs were run off hand using a Suhner flexible shaft tool. The discs were run at 2,500 rpm against the edge of an Inconel bar for 10 minutes. The weight and diameter of the disc were recorded every 2 minutes.

Conclusions
Based on results each side of this part can be finished in a total of seven steps with a very nice consistent finish. We feel that after this new process is learned on the production line at Whirlpool, each side can be finished in approximately 7-12 minutes (depending on the final processes chosen).
