In House Test Report - Northern Industries, Inc.

Objective

Find a flap disc that will perform better than the Pferd Polifan 40 grit disc currently used, and to find a Quick-Lok that performs better than 3M’s 777F 80 grit.

Summary

A 4 ½” 40 grit Predator flap disc was tested against the 4 ½” 40 grit Pferd disc.

Both discs wore out in the same amount of time with the Predator disc cutting roughly 6% better than the Pferd disc.

A 3” 80 grit Predator Quick-Lok was tested against the 3” 80 grit 3M 777F.

The Predator Quick-Lok cut roughly 17% better than the 3M 777F disc.

Results

An automated grind test was performed on all of the flap discs and Quick-Lok discs.  The automated test consists of a test machine, with a Suhner flex shaft machine attached into it.

The flap disc test was performed at a speed of approximately 11,000 RPM, with the flap disc at a 10° angle, and a counterbalance of 1538 grams.

The test was performed until the discs were completely used up on the edge of stainless steel, stopping every minute to weigh the metal.

The cut of each disc was measured throughout the test and the disc weight (life) was measured every 2 minutes throughout the whole test.

The Quick-Lok test was performed at a speed of approximately 9,600 RPM, with the discs at a 30° angle, and a counterbalance of 2402.3 grams.

The test was performed for 20 minutes on the edge of stainless steel.  With the metal being weighed every minute and the disc being weighed before and after the test.
